Hey, thanks for joining for another week of New Venture Weekly.

I’m trying out a slightly different formula this week that will hopefully make it quicker and easier for you to read while providing more value.

I might be biased here but I think newsletters are a great business to start.

So here are 5 of the best newsletters you can start in 2025 and how you can make money from them.

These are newsletters I’ve actually been thinking about starting myself but haven’t had the time for.

Let’s jump in!

🧐 Opportunities:

#1 - Local Flight Newsletter

By now you’ve probably all heard of Jack’s Flight Club & Scott’s Cheap Flights (now called Going).

Both of these sites rake in millions a year by sending flight and holiday deals to their subscribers.

They make money through premium subscriptions, advertising, partnerships and affiliate deals.

I think these can be simplified and niched down into a basic newsletter for your local area.

For example, {Insert City} Flight Deals

To start you don’t need to do anything fancy - just go on Google Flights select your local city and put “anywhere” as the destination.

Play around with the dates and include the 5-10 bargain flights.

How do you get subscribers?

  • Run Meta ads to people in your city

  • Optimise your site for searches like “cheap flights from {city} and last minute flights from {city}

  • Go into Reddit subs and Facebook groups for your local area and add value by sharing the flight deals for free

How do you make money?

  • Partner with local travel agencies

  • Sell travel accessories

  • Premium subscriptions

  • Travel Itineraries

  • Sell travel agent services

To scale it up you might want to look at APIs and partnerships to make finding the flights a little easier. You can also expand to other cities and just rinse and repeat.

#2 - Sports Team Newsletter

Create a fan-driven unofficial sports team newsletter.

What to include?

  • Historical/legendary moments

  • Recent results

  • Player interviews

  • Run surveys and polls on lineup/score predictions

  • Transfer rumours

  • Injury news

  • Insider gossip

  • Upcoming fixture history & facts

  • Run surveys on the player of the match/month/year

  • Run competitions for signed memorabilia

  • Season speculation

Basically, whatever you’d find in a subreddit for a sports team you can include.

How do you get subscribers?

  • Meta ads

  • Post content from your newsletter on Twitter

  • Make YouTube reaction videos

  • Post value in your team’s subreddit

How do you make money?

  • Sell team-specific art and apparel like Art of Football

  • Run ads

  • Premium subscription for Fantasy Football picks

  • Premium subscription for sports betting picks

  • Premium subscription for extra content

#3 - Points Maxxing Newsletter

There’s an enormous community of people who collect travel reward currencies.

Airline miles and Membership rewards are worth billions to airlines.

Websites like The Points Guy & Head for Points are the leaders when it comes to information on earning more points.

But you can create a newsletter

How do you grow it?

  • Run Meta ads

  • Posts on Twitter & Reddit with tips and the latest updates

  • Write blog posts targeting high-intent keywords

  • Create YouTube/TikTok videos on the same topic

How does it make money?

  • Referral bonuses for Amex and other credit cards

  • Advertising & partnerships

  • Premium subscriptions for more earning and redemption

  • Create a SaaS like PointsYeah (more on that here)

#4 - Platform-Based Newsletter

Do you have an interest or a skill in a particular program?

A great example of this is Miss Excel who makes millions teaching others how to use Microsoft Excel.

The idea here is to find a program or tool and create educational newsletters and tutorials for people who want to get better at using it.

Here are some ideas:

  • Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign

  • Microsoft Excel/Powerpoint

  • Airtable

  • Notion & Obsidian

  • Midjourney and Ai image generation

  • Chatgpt/Claude/Perplexity or other AI tools

  • Instantly.ai & cold email

  • Ableton, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Fl Studio, Serum for music production

  • Beehiiv (Convert)Kit for newsletters

  • Supabase

  • Zapier & Make.com

  • Trello, Asana, Monday.com, ClickUp, Jira

  • Runway ML

  • Descript

  • ElevenLabs

  • HubSpot

  • Klaviyo

  • Shopify

  • SEMRush & Ahrefs

  • Tableau, Polar Analytics, Northbeam, Triple Whale

  • Hotjar

  • Looker Studio (Google Data Studio)

  • Segment & Tealium

  • GitHub

  • Vercel

  • Bubble.io, WordPress, Framer, Webflow

  • Stripe

How do you get subscribers?

  • Post valuable educational content in relevant forums, FB groups and subreddits

  • Do the same thing on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok and/or YouTube

  • Run Meta ads and give out free lead magnets

  • Write articles for high-intent keywords

How does it make money?

  • Premium subscriptions

  • Courses

  • Templates/packs

  • 1-1 training & consulting

  • Done-for-you services

  • Affiliates

#5 - Web Design Newsletter

Create a newsletter teaching people how to either:

  • Make websites

  • Make money by making websites

The first option is straightforward:

Every week you send tips on how to design websites for your desired niche - I would pick CRO (Conversion Rate Optimisation) as it focuses on making websites generate more money.

The second option involves helping freelancers and people wanting to get into web design to get clients and make more money with web design.

The general rule here is if you can help people make and/or save money you’ll make money in return.

How do you get subscribers?

  • Run Meta Ads

  • Make content on YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, IG

  • Giveaway free web design templates in exchange for an email

  • Write articles for high-intent keywords

  • Give value on Reddit

How does it make money?

  • Sell web design templates

  • Sell web design services

  • Premium subscriptions with monthly templates & resources

  • Affiliate for your chosen web design platform (Framer, Webflow, etc or hosting providers)

  • Create your own (or white-label) web design platform

  • Sell outreach services to help get your reader’s clients
