AI Interior Design

This week, we explore how you can make money with AI interior design tools.

Brought to you by

Hey, thanks for joining for another week of New Venture Weekly.

The internet went a bit mad with ChatGPT’s image-generation capabilities a few weeks ago.

And it got me thinking about some businesses you could start (or buy) building on top of this tech.

And this week we’re going to focus on one of those ideas - AI Interior Design.

I saw this business for sale on Microns that’s already making sales and has an email database of 45k that I think could be an incredible opportunity for the right buyer.

So let’s jump in!

Microns

⭐️ Examples:

  • InteriorAI - By Pieter Levels makes $40k/m

  • RoomGPT - Enables users to redesign rooms instantly in specific popular aesthetics (Japandi, Scandinavian).

  • BoxBrownie - Companies like BoxBrownie.com generate millions by helping real estate agents virtually stage and enhance property listings.

🔥 Strategy:

Here’s what I would do with this business:

Differentiate:

AI itself isn't the moat - distribution, unique data, or network effects are.

AI Interior Design is pretty crowded and it’s fairly simple to set up one of these sites using APIs.

Instead, you should always go down a niche or two.

For example:

  • AI > AI Image Gen > AI Interior Design > AI for Airbnb

Here’s how I'd differentiate:

  • Airbnb Photo Enhancer: Target 7M+ Airbnb hosts with a clear ROI - improved photos directly boost booking rates. Charge a premium, recurring fee per listing.

  • Real Estate Staging: Offer virtual staging specifically for realtors listing properties. Highlight clear financial benefits (staged homes sell faster at higher prices).

  • B2B Integration: Instead of competing directly in B2C, integrate directly into property management software (PMS) tools used by rental companies, Airbnb managers, and interior designers. Lock in users through workflow integration.

  • Partnership Integrations / Shopify App: Sell your AI tool as an add-on for furniture stores to use as a feature on their website. Users can use your tool directly on the furniture store’s website to see how they can style their rooms using only that store’s products.

  • Niche Down by Style: Hyper-focus on specific aesthetics (luxury minimalism, vintage mid-century, eco-designs), building authority and community around a singular style.

Here are some other ways you could differentiate this:

  • Specialized Niches: Target specific rooms/buildings (home offices, baby nurseries, gaming rooms, office buildings, warehouses, etc).

  • Industry Partnerships: Exclusive deals with furniture brands to integrate their products - this is really easy now with the new Sora updates.

  • Budget-Focused Designs: AI-generated designs optimized strictly for affordability (IKEA, Wayfair).

  • Direct AR Integration: Immediate AR visualization in the room, rather than just digital mockups. You can make pretty good 3D renders now using tools like Meshy and it’ll only get better.

  • White Label SaaS: Sell to real estate agencies, allowing them to offer AI design services directly.

  • Multi-Home Customization: Optimize and harmonize interior styles across multiple properties or rooms simultaneously.

  • Visual SEO Integration: Auto-generate images optimized for Pinterest or Google Image rankings.

  • Seasonal & Event-Based Designs: Designs tailored for holidays, weddings, or events.

  • Custom AI Training: Allow users to train AI on their unique style preferences for hyper-personalization.

  • Emotion-Based Design: Design rooms specifically to promote feelings (calmness, productivity, creativity).

  • Data-Driven ROI Reports: Automatically calculate expected increases in rental rates or resale value after redesign.

  • DIY Integration: Provide tutorials and DIY guides matching the AI-generated designs, targeting the DIY niche.

  • Instant Shopping Integration: Instant purchasing through affiliate-linked products directly from generated designs. Dupe.com is a good example of this.

Marketing:

A few weeks ago, when I discussed buying and selling a business, I said you should pick one marketing channel and go all in on it. Here are some marketing channels you could go all in on - the one you pick will depend on what niche you end up targeting:

Outreach:

  • Cold Email/DM: Reach out to Airbnb/VRBO hosts, real estate agents or furniture stores - give them some free credits to try it out or offer a 1-2-1 demo and free setup.

  • Facebook Groups (Real Estate, Airbnb Hosts, DIY Communities): Directly engage niche communities actively looking for design solutions.

Organic Content:

  • Short-Form: Short-form viral videos showcasing striking before-and-after room transformations.

  • Pinterest: Before & Afters + Pinterest-aesthetic designs. A highly visual audience, excellent for organic discovery via optimized pins.

  • SEO Content: Room inspiration, style guides, ranking on "virtual staging" keywords

  • Newsletter: Interior design inspiration newsletter with tips and tricks for aspiring designers. Link to your tool as something tey can use to get started.

Here are some other simple features to integrate that could help with growth:

  • Gamification & Community Voting: Let communities vote on the best redesigns, increasing engagement and retention.

  • Social Media Integrations: One-click sharing of redesigns on Pinterest, Instagram, and TikTok. You could add a feature in a similar style to Revid for Architectural videos.

  • Exclusive Styles by Influencers: Partner with design influencers to offer limited-time exclusive style packs.
